National Award for Environmental Best Practices from CII
The Ferro Alloy Plant and Power Plant of Nava Bharat Ventures Limited [holding company of Nava Bharat (Singapore) Pte Limited], at Paloncha, India, have bagged the CII Environmental Best Practices Award 2012 from Confederation of Indian Industry in the form of a Shield and a Certificate as “Most Innovative Environmental Project”. This is the second consecutive year for Nava Bharat to receive this prestigious national award.
A total of 127 companies from all over India participated in this competition with 250 projects covering a wide spectrum of industries. From these entries, 27 projects were shortlisted for final competition. Out of these 27 projects only 14 were awarded the status of “Most Innovative Environmental Project”. Nava Bharat’s project was appreciated very well.
MCL awards EPC Contract for 300 MW Power Plant
MCL selected SEPCO Electric Power Construction Corp, China as Contractor to establish a mine mouth, 300MW Coal Fired Power Plant (in 2x150 MW unit configuration) at Maamba, Zambia, on Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis. MCL issued the Letter of Intent to SEPCO on 19th October 2011 at Lusaka, Zambia.
The scope of the EPC contract includes planning, design, engineering, procurement, manufacturing, supply, inspection and testing, transport to site, construction, erection, testing, commissioning, carrying out performance and guarantee tests, completion of all auxiliaries and facilities and handing over of the Power Plant to MCL.
The first Unit is scheduled to be completed within 30 months and the second Unit in 33 months from January 2012.
MCL awarded Mining contract to GRN Constructions(Zambia) Ltd
MCL has, after a thorough evaluation process, awarded the Mining Contract to GRN Constructions (Zambia) Limited and signed an agreement for a 3 year period. The mining work comprises removal of soft and hard overburden, mining of thermal grade coal and compacting thereof pending the establishment of the power plant, extraction and transportation of high grade raw coal to the CHPP along with all other attendant mine related works under the supervision of mining personnel of MCL. The contract work will confirm to Zambian Coal mine regulations and ensures the production of coal in an eco friendly manner on a long term sustainable basis. The mining operation is expected to generate direct and indirect employment opportunities for local residents.
